Floating shelves are chic, versatile and sleek wall fillers. They attach to the wall without visible brackets and are an extremely convenient solution; from occupying a tricky nook to creating a customized space. And because of that, here are some tips on how to use floating shelves around your house.

1. Cross A Window – No one ever says no to more storage and floating shelving will do just the trick for homeowners that desperately need more kitchen storage but lack extra wall space. They will give you extra storage without having to give up your beautiful window views as you might have to with cabinets. Installing floating shelves across a bank of windows is not too difficult either as long as your windows are narrow enough that you can place supports between the windows. Although it’s not as much as an issue in our bright and sunny climate but once your shelving is up, maximize the sunlight by choosing light, airy pieces like clear glassware to store on your shelves. This also leads perfectly into our next point…

2. Open Up The Kitchen – Make your kitchen feel more open and airy by substituting traditional closed cabinets with narrow floating shelves. The openness of these shelves helps to create a feeling of added space while making everything more accessible

3. Fill A Nook – Fill in unusually shaped nooks with cut-to-fit floating shelves for a customized look. This is a smart way to handle corners and other recesses that are too awkwardly shaped for most furniture. For instance, you can use floating shelves to create tidy triangles. Stick stacks into a lonely corner to create a decorative vignette that showcases all of your favorite things.

4. Go Long & Lean – Use long floating shelves to rotate art and small decorative objects with ease. Long shelves create a clean and streamlined look ideal for modern style homes. Also long shelves give you more freedom in terms of your art choices; you can put up gallery art without the commitment of nailing it to the wall.

5. Utilize Narrow Walls – Use a slender scrap of wall space to your advantage by hanging a vertical row of narrow floating shelves. Store stacks of books to complete the desired look.

6. Go Chunky – These thick wooden shelves add substance and heft to a bare nook and also provide the perfect platform for bulkier and heavier accessories. In addition, this is probably the easiest DIY tip out of the bunch!Floating Shelves in Bathroom
