7 days?! Wow only 1 week before Christmas and between all the Christmas shopping, completing year end tasks at work and holiday parties with families and friends, you may not have had a chance to decorate the house. But here we share some simple and fun last minute design tips that will capture the magic and brilliance of a classic holiday with inspiration and doable decorating tips.

Flank an Entryway

Give your guests a dramatic welcome: A pair of inexpensive plastic urns from the garden center instantly dresses up a front doorway. Place a tall foam cone in each urn, anchor it with sand, then use florist sticks and wire to attach greenery and Christmas balls.

Go With a Simple Centerpiece

Load a simple glass jar or bowl with multiples of the same fruit, nuts, or ornaments. Here, trifle bowls are filled with red apples and green baby artichokes—the colors of Christmas—and walnuts. Or fill them with candy and marshmallows and create a candy winter wonderland.

Build a tropical Snowman

Get the kiddies involved with holiday treats and build a tropical snowman. Make a base frosting by beating together six egg whites and 3¾ cups confectioners’ sugar. Spread a thin layer of frosting on a flat Styrofoam cone and start stacking the fruit, holding the pieces together with toothpicks. Add peppermint sticks for arms and a nose, licorice for a scarf. The hat is a vanilla wafer and peppermints layered with frosting.
